Avoid Fund Shortages, Cut IPO Superweek Risk by Concentrating Deposits in Priority Accounts
Only one condition!!! Decide your priority stocks and accounts before subscribing.
During Superweek it is common to miss subscriptions due to insufficient margin.
Each account has different subscription limits and refund rules.
Retail investor:
"Can’t I just subscribe to everything?"
No, you cannot, because duplicate subscriptions and refund delays can lock your funds.
What's the core? Set priorities first.
Core: Choose 1-2 priority accounts and concentrate your margin in those accounts.
This is because margin is tied to each account and refund timing differs, reducing effectiveness when subscribing across multiple accounts.
Check: Confirm each broker's subscription rules and refund/allocation times via the broker customer center or Korea Exchange disclosures.
How much margin should you prepare?
Margin: Prepare the subscription amount plus an extra 10-20% buffer for safety.
This buffer accounts for subscription competition and potential refund delays.
Margin accounts may be temporarily unusable after subscription until refunds are processed.
What is the practical procedure?
→ 1. Today: Create a subscription schedule and narrow priority stocks to 1-2.
→ 2. Day before: Transfer margin to the priority account and confirm deposit.
→ 3. Subscription day: Verify non-face-to-face authentication, account status, and withdrawal freeze.
→ 4. After subscription: Check allocation and refund disclosure times and adjust the next subscription plan.
→ 5. If problems persist: Contact the broker customer center immediately for refund delays or mispayments and consult the Financial Supervisory Service if necessary.
How far is duplicate subscription acceptable?
Duplicate subscription is allowed per account, but margin is tied to each account.
Blindly subscribing across multiple accounts may prevent you from funding your preferred stock.
Priority principle: Subscribe to core stocks first, approach others with leftover funds.
Why do refund delays occur?
Cause: Differences in allocation announcements, deposit processing times, and internal broker processing speeds.
Extended refund delays can cause insufficient margin for the next subscription.
Refund waiting time: The period after subscription when funds have not yet returned to the account.
So, what to do first
→ 1. Today: Narrow participating stocks to 2 priority names.
→ 2. Tomorrow: Transfer margin to the priority account and confirm the deposit.
→ 3. Finally: Check refund disclosure times after subscription and decide the next subscription after confirming refunds.
