Battery Stocks Split Today, Why Are They Wobbling Despite Top 3-Month ETF Returns?

Is only the battery sector smiling...

Solid-state battery stocks are split intraday today.

Hannong Chemicals is up, while Daejoo Electronic Materials and Lee Su Specialty Chemical are down in a mixed trade.

(Headline-based as of Oct 19, 2026, 14:30 collection time, intraday and not yet confirmed)

But elsewhere, a different story is making headlines.

"Battery, the only thing left to trust?" The claim is that batteries swept the top spots in 3-month ETF returns.

Retail investor:

"Wait, I thought it was number one... so why is it wobbling on the same day?"

That is the temperature gap within one theme.

Let's go through it one by one.

How well did battery ETFs really run? (Source: domestic media headlines)

Battery ETFs: sweeping the top of 3-month returns

Semiconductors: Samsung Electronics and SK hynix weak, HBM-related stocks shaky

Nvidia: sharp drop on AI selling

While chips wobbled, batteries held up.

The word "그나마" in the headline is the key.

It carries a sense of a refuge found as an alternative, not a true leader.

Why are secondary battery stocks wobbling? (Source: domestic media headlines)

Lithium supply: rising

EV demand: slowing

Lithium is a core raw material in battery cathodes.

When supply grows and demand cools, raw material prices tend to get pressed.

Weak raw material prices can also cool earnings expectations for material makers.

After a big run, a single headline like this can serve as a reason to take profits.

Why did solid-state battery stocks split?

Hannong Chemicals: up

Daejoo Electronic Materials: down

Lee Su Specialty Chemical: down

Solid-state batteries use a solid electrolyte instead of a liquid one, making them a next-generation battery.

They are not yet commercialized, so the theme moves on expectations.

Expectation-driven themes can share a label and still move apart.

The headlines alone do not confirm the reasons behind each stock's decline.

So I start with each company's disclosures and flows.

How did last Friday's market go?

KOSPI: 5,668.05 (+2.05%)

KOSDAQ: 794.78 (+4.46%)

Confirmed closing prices for Oct 16.

KOSDAQ jumped over 4%, so growth stocks were already running hot.

The last US trading day told a split story.

US Materials: +1.79%

US IT and Semiconductors: -0.65%

US Energy: -1.58%

On top of that, the mood is watching the US CPI shock.

Retail investor:

"So can I keep trusting batteries?"

The numbers will answer that. I'll simply line up both sides.

So, up or down?

Weighing down

  • Lithium supply: rising, a signal of raw material cost pressure
  • EV demand: slowing, weakening secondary battery expectations
  • US IT and Semiconductors: -0.65%, lingering AI selling

Holding up

  • Battery ETFs: sweeping the top of 3-month returns
  • Hannong Chemicals: up intraday, solid-state expectations intact
  • US Materials: +1.79%, materials mood steady
